Welcome Remy! (Yokoso, Remy-chan)

I'm not sure how to say "Welcome" in nihongo - kind of embarrassing. For some reason I think "irrashaimase" is not correct - that that is reserved for sushi chefs to yell at you when you enter their restaurant (or store). So I settled on "yokoso" - which may also be wrong, who knows. All that matters is that I met little Remy-chan the other day. She was not that excited about my visit - barely batted an eye - but was nice enough to let me hold her for a bit. I was there for 4 or so hours and she pretty much slept quietly in her miracle blanket (not to be confused with the magic blankets the rest of us have). Her parents are remarkably relaxed and calm - and somehow even managed a tomato & basil garden over the summer (yes, I'm totally envious). Anyway, little Remy seems like a mellow little one and I can't wait to see her next time and I'll start teaching her the 3 words I know in Japanese. Hanakuso (boogers), unchi (poop) and onara (fart).

Locks of Love

I think in this case pictures say more than words! I finally cut my hair - 12 inches - and sent it off to Locks of Love. Along with 10 or so other donations, someone will have a nice wig of my hair!

Jury is out on my my new 'do - not sure if I'll keep it short, but it's definitely an improvement. It's the easiest (and cheapest) way to volunteer/donate that I've ever seen. A couple of people at work are now growing their hair to donate and a few of their kids too. For you dudes, it's easy b/c you can cut it as soon as you get 10 inches and just shave your head! You have my moral support if you decide to go for it. =)

Pirates, Jousting & a Big Turkey Leg

We drove east to Holland, MI over the weekend and went to the Renaissance Faire. We have never been, didn't know what to expect, but thought we'd check it out. I knew there would be turkey legs and lots of people dressed like they live in the Shire. Turns out that it's kind of like a downscale Disney (pirates of the caribbean mostly), along with lots of things to buy (you pay to get in, then they just sell you stuff) and some things to see (jousting, jugglers, fire-throwers, Jack Sparrow look-alike contests, etc). The funniest part was the people who show up in full RenFaire regalia - whether it be a LOTR outfit, Pirates of the Caribbean, or just something very hobbit-looking - people are totally in to it. There are also lots of people like Dave and me, just staring and laughing at the other people. All in all, a fun(ny) day with a beer sampling, a turkey leg and very nice weather. I think the one in CA is in Napa - you guys should check it out!
